RALEIGH, N.C. - With the renovations at Doak Field still weeks from completion, the NC State baseball team will begin its 2003 home schedule away from home on Tuesday, February 25, when the Wolfpack will play host to Furman. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
The Wolfpack, 5-3 on the season, is coming off a two-game split this past weekend in the Charleston Crab House Challenge at The Citadel's Riley Park. NC State defeated Boston College 4-3 on Friday, February 21, behind the solid pitching of Mike Rogers and Colt Morton's home runs and two RBIs.
NC State did not fare so well on Sunday, February 23, when The Citadel laid a 15-2 whipping on the Wolfpack. Chris Ard hit a grand-slam home run and drove in five runs in all, and John Ellis limited the Pack to a run on five hits through six innings of work as the Bulldogs rolled to the easy victory.
Morton, hitting .300 with four homers and 10 RBIs, both team highs, has been the offensive leader for the Wolfpack. Joe Gaetti has a pair of doubles, a triple, a home run and nine RBIs. Freshman leadoff hitter Matt Camp is hitting a team-best .357 and leads the team in hits (10), runs scored (8) and on-base percentage (.455).
Furman is 5-1 after a doubleheader sweep of Niagara on Sunday. The Paladins defeated the Eagles 8-6 and 9-7 in a pair of seven-inning games. Nick Wajda leads Furman with a .533 average and has drivein in five runs, while Dominic Frankey is hitting .421 qith a team-high six RBIs.
