Pack Men Record Big Win Over Seahawks

WILMINGTON, N.C. - The NC State men's swimming & diving squad improved to 4-1 by taking wins in 11 of 13 events en route to a 144-98 decision over host UNC Wilmington in the Seahawk Natatorium on Wednesday evening. Junior Rob Yeager and freshman Vitor Assuncao led the squad with two wins apiece. Yeager recorded wins in the 200 IM and the 100 breast, while Assuncao added two facility records to his tote to garnish wins on the 1- and 3- meter boards.
UNC Wilmington opened scoring with a win in the 400 Medley Relay. Wolfpack teams scored in second and third. Junior Chris Nixon picked up his first win of the season with a time of 9:38.59 in the 1000 free. Billy Booth and Seth Hoffman also added points for the Pack with fourth- and fifth-place finishes.
Brian Pursley and Cristian Rojas touched one and two in the 200 Free. Pursley clocked in at 1:44.11. UNCW's Patrick Bradford had the winning time in the 50 free, just beating NC State's Scott Dettloff to the wall. Yeager's first win of the evening came in the 200 IM with a time of 1:55.61. Nixon finished second.
Dettloff was a winner in the 100 fly race, turning in a time of 54.15. Rick Scott scored in fourth. John Hudson followed with a win in the 100 free, touching in 46.59. Rojas finished fourth. Robert Terrell remains undefeated in the 100 back, and led a one-two Wolfpack finish with a time of 51.64. Andy Bauman took second. Hoffman recorded a win in the 500 free in a time of 4:38.57, and Booth finished fifth. Yeager added his second win of the night in the 100 breast by finishing with a time of 58.08. Pursley finished second and Scott took fourth. The 400 free relay squad of Hudson, Peter Pessagno, Rojas and Dettloff took first in the final event of the night, recording a time of 3:08.92.
Assuncao recorded scores of 353.33 and 359.25 on the 1- and 3- meter, respectively, moving to 10-0 on the season. His scores were Seahawk Natatorium records. Steve House finished third on the 3-meter board.
The Wolfpack returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 8, as the host of the Virginia Tech Hokies. Action is slated to begin at noon in the Willis Casey Aquatics Center.
