Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State men's soccer team will battle UNC Wilmington this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in the Wolfpack's final home game of the season at Method Road. The time has changed from the original schedule. The Wolfpack (8-7-1) will look to conclude the first undefeated season at Method Road in school history, and also prepare for next week's ACC Tournament at SAS Soccer Stadium, after finishing the ACC season in fourth place.
The Wolfpack has had great success playing on its home field this season. The Pack currently sports a perfect 7-0-1 record at Method Road, after wins over Charlotte and UNC Greensboro two weeks ago. No team in the 20-year history of Method Road has finished a season undefeated at Method Road, with six squads recording just one loss on the home pitch. More impressive is the fact that NC State finished its home ACC schedule at 2-0-1. NC State defeated two ranked ACC opponents, and tied another. The Wolfpack defeated No. 24 Clemson 2-0, then No. 7 Virginia 1-0 ,in back-to-back weekends. NC State also tied No. 3 North Carolina 1-1.
The Seahawks currently hold a record of 10-6-2 this season, most recently losing at No. 13 VCU 4-0, last weekend. UNCW is led on offense by Sam Leger, who has five goals this season, with four of those going as game-winners. Keith Shevlin and Russell Bienias each have seven points. In goal, Brad Knighton currently has a GAA of 0.98, and has 8.5 shutouts this season.
NC State holds an 18-3-1 advantage in the overall series with the Seahawks, with NC State winning the last two contests. The two teams last met in 2001, with the Wolfpack winning in Wilmington, 2-1.
