NC State's Philip Rivers (Athens, Ala.) completed 29 of 34 passes, including his first 17 straight, for 410 passing yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions to lead NC State over Virginia 51-37. The senior also tied the ACC record with his fifth career 400-yard passing game. Rivers rushed for 20 yards against the Cavaliers, moving him up to third place in NCAA history with 12,352 career yards of total offense. He used nine different receivers throughout the game and Rivers' four TD passes propelled him to tenth place in NCAA history with 86 career touchdown passes.
