RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State shot another impressive match on Oct. 25 at the SEARC #2 to win and improve to 15-2 overall on the season, and 8-1 in the Southeastern Air Rifle Conference. The Wolfpack fired a 1,502 by NCAA standards and a stellar 1,518 in SEARC Freshman Jennifer Marshall continues to pace NC State in air rifle average after tying the school record with a 383. The previous mark was set in 1985 by current head coach Keith Miller. Matthew Gifford and Kirk Freeman, both freshman, fired career-highs of 381 and 379, respectively.
Overall, NC State had six shooters tie or break career-highs in air rifle in winning the match. The Wolfpack topped second place The Citadel who posted a score of 1,496, followed by Clemson (1,462), North Georgia (1,417), Georgia Military (1,396) and Wofford (1,006).
John Maroglio fired a 375 and Teri Steinkopff a 374 to finish in the top-5 highest air rifle scores in the match.
Laura Ferrell tied her career-high with a 372, while Christine Kimball set her career-best with a 370. Seven of NC State's ten shooters fired a 370 or higher, an impressive feat.
"Top to bottom, I think we have the strongest team in the league this year. Other schools have some good shooters, but we are deeper. This can only help us as the SEARC season progresses, since any of them can contribute on any given day.
