Red/White Basketball Game Set for Saturday
10/30/2003 12:00:00 AM | Men's Basketball
Oct. 30, 2003
The highlight of this year's annual Red/White intrasquad men's basketball scrimmage will be the return of Chris "Fire" Corchiani and Rodney "Ice" Monroe, whose jerseys will be honored in a special halftime ceremony. The game will be held on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the RBC Center and should concluded by 2:30.
The scrimmage will be divided into two 12-minute halves, with several players switching teams at halftime. The competition will be Wolfpack fans' first chance to see the Wolfpack newcomers in action, and will mark Ilian Evtimov's first time back on the RBC court since he suffered a knee injury almost a year ago.
Corchiani became the first player in NCAA history to break the 1,000 assist plateau and finished his career as the NCAA's career leader with 1,038. He still ranks second in ACC history with 328 steals and was the 'fire' to Monroe's 'ice' from 1988-91. Monroe was the ACC Player of the Year in 1991 and still ranks as the all-time leading scorer in NC State history with 2,551 points, the third-best mark in ACC history. Monroe is also one of the top long range shooters in league history, shooting 43.6% from three-point range, third-best ever by an ACC player.
Commemorative "Fire and Ice" posters, Wolfpack Thundersticks, t-shirts and 2003-04 men's basketball posters and schedule cards will be handed out to fans in attendance. Two NC State students will compete in a halftime "Fire and Ice Shootout" for a chance to win cash prizes from RBC Centura, Wolfpack gear and 2004 Men's Basketball ACC Tournament tickets.
2003-04 Men's Basketball media guides will be available for sale during the game at the guest services window, located on the concourse near the arena box office. The cost is $20 and will be available when the doors open for the Red/White game at 12 p.m.
Doors open at noon and admission is free. Fans will need to use their football parking passes or park in the public parking at the fairgrounds.
