RALEIGH, N.C. - The City of Raleigh will honor NC State's Gator Bowl champion football team for its historic season with a pep rally Saturday, beginning at 2 p.m. at Lichtin Plaza in front of the BTI Center.
The team motorcade will receive a police escort from the campus to downtown Raleigh via Hillsborough Street and Morgan Street, and is scheduled to arrive at the BTI Center at approximately 2:30. WRAL-TV's Debra Morgan will be the master of ceremonies, and Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker and NC State Chancellor Marye Anne Fox will address the crowd. The Wolfpack's senior captains will address the crowd briefly, all in advance of the featured speaker, Wolfpack head coach Chuck Amato.
Prior to the pep rally, a local rock band, the Usuals, will entertain the crowd. At 2 o'clock, the NC State marching band, cheerleaders and dance team will kick off the pep rally. Face-painters will be at work on the plaza, applying red and white face paint to any and all who wish to demonstrate the team spirit with a fresh game face, and red and white balloons will be present in abundance.
The city will provide free bus service from the NC State campus to the BTI Center. The bus service will originate beginning at 12:45 p.m. at the central campus's main bus stop at Morrill Drive and Cates Avenue, adjacent to Carmichael Gymnasium.
Downtown parking will be available at the BTI Center parking lot and the Raleigh Convention Center parking deck, both of which are across South Street from the BTI Center.
Special thanks to the sponsors of the event: WRAL-TV, Mix 101.5 FM, the Durham Bulls, the Carolina Hurricanes, Bojangles, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, First Union/Wachovia and York Properties.
