Raleigh, N.C. - NC State has announced its newest addition to its women's tennis coaching staff. Christa Grey has been named the assistant coach for the Wolfpack.
"We are excited to have Christa on board," says Coach Hans Olsen. "We think that she adds a number of intangible assets to the staff and will be a great addition. Her leadership skills, coaching ability and playing experience will be a tremendous help."
Grey, a 2001 graduate of the University of Georgia, comes to NC State with experience as an assistant teaching professional at the Knoxville Racquet Club, and is accredited by the USTPA. She also assisted with summer camps hosted by the University of Georgia and the Bardmorr Golf and Tennis Club.
"NC State is exactly the type of place I dreamed of starting my coaching career," says Grey. "The department is committed to the women's tennis program, evident in the facility improvements. I am glad to be a part of the excitement and can't wait to help build a winning tradition for NC State."
As a former collegiate player at Georgia, Grey knows all about winning traditions. Grey was a part of the 2000 national championship and SEC championship teams. She helped her school repeat as the SEC Tournament Champions in 2001. At one point, Grey was listed as the No. 74 player in the nation according to the ITA.
Grey not only excelled on the court, but in the classroom as well. She was named to the Director's Honor Roll, and was listed to the All-SEC Honor Roll in 2001.
Grey also took part in many leadership opportunities as a student. She was the vice president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council and served as Georgia's representative to the SEC Student Advisory Council. Through SAAC, Grey was able to volunteer for the Special Olympics and work in local schools and libraries.
"I believe that my experience and leadership skills will pay off and that I can help NC State develop a championship caliber team," says Grey. "I feel that Coach Olsen and I will make a good team and can work together on the mental and physical aspects of coaching that will help our team perform to its highest potential."
