"I still can't believe this." Those were the words of Raleigh native Pam Wilcher, when handed the keys to a brand new 2003 Toyota Camry on Wednesday, September 18. The diehard NC State fan was the first ever winner in the newly created "Toyota Kickoff Payoff" Contest on GoPack.com. When NC State cornerback Lamont Reid returned the opening kickoff 90 yards against East Tennessee State it paid off for both the Pack and Pam.
"It's something that you read about, but it never happens to you. There's always a glitch," said Pam's husband Al. But there's no glitch this time. The Wilchers have the car to prove it. And the man who presented it to them was the owner of Fred Anderson Toyota himself. "It's like you don't really expect anybody to win, but once in a while lightning strikes", said the veteran dealer and longtime Wolfpack supporter. "We're glad to have Wolfpack fans driving Fred Anderson Toyotas."
In this case the Wilchers won't be driving their new Camry very long. They've decided to make it an early Christmas present for Pam's seventy-five year old father, Russell Brooks of Lake Gaston. When told of the generous gift officials of Southeast Toyota rewarded Pam and Al with a new wardrobe of NC State merchandise. It will come in handy as these super fans will attend every NC State game this season.
And they will no doubt be pulling for the Pack to run back another kickoff so that someone else can have the same experience they had."To have it happen so quick and so early in the season is great. Hopefully it can happen again", said Toyota District Sales Manager Andy McNeil. It can happen again. The "Toyota Kickoff Payoff" Contest continues on GoPack.com. If the Pack returns another opening kickoff for a touchdown some other lucky fan will get to pick out a new Toyota. Plus, every time NC State returns any other kickoff for six, someone will win $500.
