Following a 23-11 season that included a third place finish in the ACC and a trip to the NCAA Tournament, the NC State basketball program is starting to get some national recognition. The Wolfpack, which will return three starters from last year's squad, is ranked 12th in Athlon's preseason college basketball poll.
As he begins his sixth year at the helm of the Pack, head coach Herb Sendek welcomes back a number of talented players who played major roles in last season's post-season run. Among the returnees is sophomore Julius Hodge, who averaged 10.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game as a freshman. Also returning is versatile forward Marcus Melvin, who put up 10.1 points per game in 2001-'02 while shooting 44 percent from the three-point arc.
The Pack will open its season against Mount St. Mary's at the Raleigh Entertainment and Sports Arena on November 22.
