RALEIGH, N.C. - For the third time in as many years, an NC State wrestler has been named to the Amateur Wrestling News's All-Rookie Team. Kevin Gabrielson, who wrestled most of this past season at 157 pounds, was chosen to the national all-freshman squad after compiling a 7-10 overall record, including an 0-2 mark at 184 in the ACC Tournament.
Gabrielson, a former two-time national prep champion from DeMatha High School and Chesapeake Beach, Md., had two pins and a major decision as a true freshman for the Pack during the 2001-02 season.
Dustin Kawa (2000-01) and Scott Garren (1999-2000) were named to the All-Rookie team the previous two seasons. They should combine with Gabrielson to give the Wolfpack, the two-time defending ACC champions, a formidable middle of the lineup for the 2002-03 season.
