Defensive back Brian Williams, a three-year starter in the NC State secondary, has agreed to terms on a three-year contract with the Minnesota Vikings, who selected him in the fourth round (105th overall) of April's NFL Draft.
After leading the Wolfpack in tackles as a free safety in his sophomore season, the speedy Williams made a successful transition to cornerback in 2000 and 2001. And although the Vikings initially indicated a desire to move Williams back to free safety on draft day, they seemed to have a change of heart after getting a close up look at his cover skills during a three-day mini-camp in June. Following that mini-camp, Minnesota defensive coordinator Willie Shaw said that Williams would stay at corner.
Williams finished his career at NC State with 262 tackles, 20 pass deflections and five interceptions. He was also credited with five blocked kicks on special teams.
