CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - One of the newest NCAA-certified bowl games gained credibility Tuesday by signing a title sponsor and landing tie-ins with the Big East and Atlantic Coast Conferences.
The Continental Tire Bowl will be the first bowl game to be staged in the Carolinas on a permanent basis. It will pit an ACC school against a Big East school on Dec. 28 at Ericsson Stadium. Broadcasting details have not been finalized, but ESPN is expected to televise the game. Continental Tire and the two conferences signed three-year deals with the bowl organizers. Each participating school will receive $750,000, said Ken Haines, vice president of Raycom Sports.
The ACC will now be tied into six bowls and the Big East will have five.
