Florida State Hands NC State Baseball 10-4 Defeat

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Tony McQuade homered and drove in three runs Saturday night to lead Florida State to a 10-4 victory in Atlantic Coast Conference baseball action at FSU's Dick Howser Stadium.
The fifth-ranked Seminoles, who have won seven in a row and 11 of their last 12 games, improved to 40-12 overall and 8-6 in the ACC. The Wolfpack dropped to 26-19 overall and 4-13 in the conference. FSU starter Marc LaMacchia (8-1) got the win after working 5 1/3 innings and allowing three runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out three. Daniel Hodges picked up his seventh save with 3 2/3 innings of four-hit relief work. Wolfpack starter Daniel Caldwell (6-6) got the loss after yielding eight runs, six of them earned, on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings. Caldwell walked a career-high six and struck out four.
The Wolfpack drew first blood when Justin Riley was hit by a pitch leading off the top of the second and came arpound to score on Mike Prochaska's opposite-field double into the left-field corner. The Semioles answered back and then some in the bottom of the inning when Nick Rogers drew a two-out walk, went to third on Bryan Zech's bloop single to shalow center, and scored on Stephen Drew's single to left. That tied the score, and Tony McQuade, up next, untied it with a three-run homer to left, giving FSU a 4-1 lead.
Florida State got back in action again in the bottom of the fourth. Zech led off with a double into the left-center-field gap. Drew singled and McQuade walked to load the bases with none out. Ryan Barthelemy hit a run-scoring fly ball to center field, with Drew taking third on the play, and Caldwell let fly with a wild pitch to allow Drew to score and give the Seminoles a 6-1 lead.
The Wolfpack cut the lead to three with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth. Joe Gaetti led off with an infield single, and Jeremy Dutton grounded into a force play. Brian Wright doubled down the left-field line, his seventh-first career double, which is a new NC State record. That put runners on second and third for Justin Riley, and he drove both runners home with another double down the left-field line, trimming the FSU lead to 6-3.
Blair McCaleb led off the bottom of the seventh and reached on an error. After Jerrod Brown flied out, Richie Smith doubled to right-center to put runners at second and third with one out. Phillip Davidson came in to relieve Caldwell and got Tony Richie to ground into a force play, with pinch-runner Scott Toole out at the plate, but Rogers laced an RBI single just over the glove of the leading Hargrave at second, and Zech followed with an RBI single up the middle, fluffing the Florida State lead to 8-3.
Dutton led off the top of the eighth with his third hit of the night, a single up the middle, and Wright walked. Riley flied to right, with Dutton taking third on the play, and Prochaska looped a single to right to drive in Dutton and make it 8-4.
Florida State got that run back immediately. McQuade led off the eighth with a double to right field and scored on Barthelemy's single up the middle. With one out, Brown doubled to center field, and Barthelemy scored all the way from first on the play to make it 10-4 Seminoles.
