Raleigh, N.C. - Wolfpack men's basketball coach Herb Sendek has announced that four young men have signed letters of intent to attend NC State next season. North Carolina natives Cameron Bennerman and Adam Simons signed during the fall period, while Justin Flatt and Dominick Mejia inked with the Pack this week.
"We believe that we met our needs and really helped ourselves with the addition of these four versatile student-athletes," said Sendek. "I'm certainly looking forward to coaching them."
Cameron Bennerman, a 6-4 guard/forward, played last season at Hargrave Military Academy after competing for three seasons at Grimsley High School in Greensboro. At Hargrave, Brennerman posted 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists per game. As a junior at Grimsley, he averaged 21 points and 10 rebounds. Bennerman is rated among the nation's top 100 prospects by both Dave Telep of Bluechiphoops.com and Brick Oettinger of Prepstars Handbook, and was a finalist for the McDonald's All-American squad.
Adam Simons, a 7-0 center from Burlington, N.C., played at Williams High School, where he was named all-conference, all-area and all-region. Simons averaged 19.4 points, 15 rebounds and four blocked shots per game last season, leading his team to a 21-7 record. As a junior, he led Williams to a 23-8 mark and the 3A regional championship.
Justin Flatt, a 6-4 guard from Savannah, Tenn., averaged 27.8 points, 8.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.9 steals at Hardin County High School last season. He connected on 44.3 percent (104-of-235) of his three-points attempts and was named to the all-state second-team, regardless of classification. Rated the nation's No. 90 recruit by Bob Gibbons, Flatt was one of three finalists for the Class AAA Mr. Basketball in Tennessee.
Dominick Mejia (prounounced muh-HEE-uh), a 6-4 guard from Voorhees, N.J., played at Eastern Regional High School, where he scored over 1,000 career points during his career. Last season, he led his squad to a 23-4 record and the South Jersey Group IV Championship game. He averaged 23 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.5 steals during his senior campaign, earning first-team all-state honors from the Associated Press. He was also named a second-team all-area performer by the Philadelphia Inquirer and South Jersey Player of the Year. Mejia recently played in the Carino All-Star game, winning MVP honors and scoring a game-high 21 points.
