Wolfpack Women's Golf Win Third Straight Tournament

Wallace N.C.- After 54 rounds of golf at the Lady Seahawk Invitational, Coach Page Marsh Lea and her Wolfpack Women's Golf team were tied with ACC rival Florida State at 904 strokes. Unfamilar territory for this squad of four freshman and a sophomore perhaps, but after two straight tournament championships in the Lady Moc Classic and the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational the Wolfpack was loaded with confidence and long drives. The Wolfpack won by way of having the lowest total score including the fifth golfer. Barring a tie, the top four scores are counted each round for the team's score.
Three Wolfpack golfers notched their personal low rounds on the year led by Sarah Bonner. Bonner sparked the Pack in the final round with a 72, her best round of the year. She scored a three day 224 and finished a season-high seventh.
NC State once again got strong play by sophomore Malin Claesson as she carded a season best 226 (74-73-79) for a three round event. Claesson finished in a tie for ninth with teammate Colby Cobb. Cobb sandwiched a one-over-par 73 between her first round 77 and a final round 76. The 73 was Cobb's low round of the year.
Leslie Stubblefield finished tied for 28th and fired a personal season-low round of 73 in the first round to finish with a three roudn total of 231.
Freshman Erica Wein was perhaps the Wolfpack's hero on the day though. Her consistent shooting in the high 70's enabled NC State to take the team title because its its five-player total of 1140 was lower than the Seminoles who had a five-player total of 1144.
NC State has won four tournament titles in school history with their only other title coming in the early 80's.
The Wolfpack compete in the Bryan National Collegiate in Brown Summitt, NC on April 5-7 in their final tournament before the ACC Championships.
