RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State baseball game with St. Joseph's scheduled for Sunday, March 17, was cancelled and played on Saturday as part of a doubleheader. With forecasts calling for as much as a 90 percent chance of rain on Sunday, the decision was made to play two games on Saturday.
NC State won both games of the doubleheader in slugfests. The Pack took the opener 14-12 behind Brian Wright's four hits, and three hits from Colt Morton and Matt Butler. The second game started as a blowout, but the Hawks scored seven runs in the top of the ninth inning and had the potential goi-ahead run on base, but NC State's Daryl Minugh got the final out to preserve Daniel Caldwell's fifth win of the season, 15-13. Justin Riley had two home runs and five RBIs.
NC State's next game will be Tuesday night vs. Davidson. Game time will be 7 o'clock. Sophomore lefthander Nate Cretarolo will be the starting pitcher for the Wolfpack.
