NC State Practice (March 14, 2002)
NC State Head Coach Herb Sendek on playing Michigan State:
"I definetly think they have the advantage in terms of experience even though we both rely on young players to a great extent. Some of their guys have obviously been here before and advanced quite far in this tournament in recent years."
NC State Head Coach Herb Sendek on the play of Anthony Grundy:
"We knew Anthony was a very talented young man and to his credit, he has improved each step on the journey. Right now, he is enjoying his career best season."
NC State Head Coach Herb Sendek on being in the NCAA Tournament for the first time:
"I don't know if there is anything you can do a whole lot different. Obviously, we found out Sunday night that we would be playing Michigan State. We played three consecutive hard-fought games in the ACC Tournament so we took Monday to recuperate a little bit. Now you are talking about Tuesday and Wednesday, today is already Thursday, there is so much to address regarding game preparation, you don't have a lot of time to set up a mock interview situation or any of those type of things. We have been really focused on getting better this week and preparing for Michigan State."
NC State Senior Guard Archie Miller on NC State being in the NCAA Tournament atmosphere:
"From the players' aspect, I don't think it's very much different from the ACC Tournament. The ACC Tournament is a bigtime environment with a lot of media. There are lots of demands on the players at shoot-arounds and things like that. It's not much different from the ACC Tournament, but I think it will be once we get on the court. It's a neutral crowd ... but as far as the demands on the players I would say its like the ACC Tournament.
NC State Senior Guard Anthony Grundy on capping his career with his first NCAA bid:
"To finally get this chance is great. To be in the position that we are in, I think its special. It's a special season for us. It's a season that has turned our program around. For me to be a pillar of it is really something special that I can always hold on to."
NC State Senior Guard Archie Miller on Michigan State calling itself the underdog:
"For our team, we are inexperienced coming into the tournament. We have a lot of young guys. For us, we really don't know what to expect, so I wouldn't consider us the favorite or anything like that. Michigan State's staff and some of their players have been to three straight Final Fours and they have a lot of experience. They play in a bigtime conference, they have won 10 of 13 (games). I think we know what we are up against. If anything, we think they are favorite over us."
NC State Senior Guard Anthony Grundy on what he means to his team:
"I just try to do whatever helps our team. I'm blessed that I am able to do a lot of things. Whatever happens in the games, I just (get in the) flow. It's not that I go out and try to score all the points or get this many rebounds, whatever happens is what comes to me."
