Wolfpack Men Remain Seventh At ACC Swimming/Diving Championships

College Park, Md.--The NC State men's swimming/diving squad remained in seventh-place (162 points) Friday after the second day of competition at the ACC Swimming/Diving Championships in College Park, Md.
The best performance of the day was turned in by the Wolfpack's 800 free relay squad with a fourth overall performance in a time of 6:43.67. The team consisted of Justin Smith, Jack Deal, Andy Seitz and Tim Haley.
NC State also fared well in the other relay event of the day, the 200 medley relay. The team of Kevin Barkley, Rob Yeager, Kevin Devine and Chris Swank also recorded a fifth-place showing with a mark of 1:31.85.
In the very next event, senior Haley turned in a seventh-place finish in 3:55.83. Other Wolfpack finishers included Cristian Rojas (15th, 3:59.33) and Ed Hill (17th, 3:59.63).
Devine led the way for the Wolfpack in the 100 butterfly with a seventh-place finish in 49.22. Smith (25th, 50.81), Charlie Hughes (28th, 51.78) and Swank (29th, 52.40) rounded out the NC State competitors in the event.
Yeager was the Wolfpack's top finisher in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 56.52, followed by Suha Akman in 18th with a time of 57.97.
Seitz took 13th (1:40.59) in the 200 freestyle to lead NC State. Also taking part in the event for the Wolfpack was: Deal (15th, 1:41.08), Ben Humphrey (18th, 1:41.95), Peter Pessagno (20th, 1:43.90), Jorge Gutierrez (23rd, 1:44.86) and Dan Kesler (37th, 1:45.42).
Barkley led the charge for NC State in the 100 backstroke (51.31), followed by Devine (15th, 51.33) and Chris Nixon (21st, 51.16).
The competition ends on Saturday.
