Wolfpack Holds Football Awards Banquet

Senior defenders Dantonio Burnette and Terrence Holt and junior quarterback Philip Rivers were all co-recipients of the 2002 Governor's Award, given annually to the NC State football team's most valuable performer. The awards were presented Saturday afternoon at the annual awards banquet, which was held at the McKimmon Center on campus.
Burnette and Holt led the Wolfpack defense that finished the regular season leading the ACC in total defense. Burnette posted his fourth consecutive 100+ tackle total this season, while Holt set the ACC record for blocked kicks. Both were named first-team All-ACC performers. Rivers posted the second-highest single-season passing total in school history (3,125 yards) and was named to the second-team All-ACC team.
Senior cornerback J.J. Washington won the Bo Rein Award, given each year to the player who makes a vital contribution in an unsung role, while Greg Golden and Shane Riggs were both given the Al Michaels Award, for putting team before self. Seniors Drew Wimsatt and Jerrick Hall won the Bob Warren Award for Sportsmanship.
