This is the fourth in a series of entries that will follow throughout the season and provide an inside look into the NC State swimming & diving team as it works to achieve its goal of contending for a conference championship and go to the NCAA Championships. This week, junior co-captain Dan Kesler shares his thoughts on the early success of the team.

I was talking to coach Brooks Teal just the other day about how well we are doing so early in the season. Much like myself, he is very impressed. He even went as far as to say that he has never been a part of a team that has been so prepared in the early season like us. He's coached some great teams during his time, so you can take that to mean we are really doing well! Both the men's and women's teams are making some huge strides to climb up into the conference and NCAA elite team status. With this being my third year as a Wolfpacker, I'm thrilled to be a part of this great family.
Last week both the men's and women's team sent UNCW and JMU home with losses in the record books. T.J. Ferguson swept both one- and three-meter diving boards. Claire Nicholls stepped it up for the Wolfpack women with a win in the 1000-yard freestyle. Jack Deal dominated the distance events by sweeping the 500- and 1000-yard free events. Laura Cutler had a stand out 200 fly, going 2:05.66 with a ton of encouragement from the team.
Another swim that stands out in my mind from this meet was Rob Yeager's 200 breast. Rob is undefeated so far this year in the 200, so winning is not a new thing to him. He won with a time of 2:02.26. Charlie Hughes stepped it up with a huge win in the 200 fly, by running down a UNCW guy in the last 50 yards. Caroline Curran won the 500 for the women to really close the door on the competition. All in all, the meets were huge successes.
This week the NC State swimming & diving teams travel to VT to take on the Hokies. GO PACK!
