ACC LIVE, Fox Sports Net's weekly signature program profiling the Atlantic Coast Conference, continues on Monday, 11/4 at 6:30 p.m. ET. The live, half-hour show originates from FSN's Atlanta studio, with Mike Hogewood hosting and former Florida State All-American and veteran NFL Atlanta Falcons offensive lineman Jamie Dukes providing football analysis.
The show continues to spotlight a different ACC school each week, with Monday's episode focusing on NC State. The Wolfpack (9-1, 4-1 ACC) has the league's top defense, allowing 301.4 yards a game - and, without a defensive coordinator. Buddy Green left in the offseason for the same position at Navy, and head coach Chuck Amato decided he and his other defensive coaches would split the duties. The Wolfpack has allowed an average of only 14.5 points in its four ACC wins over Wake Forest, North Carolina, Duke and Clemson.
ACC LIVE welcomes Amato, who joins Hogewood and Dukes via satellite. Amato brought a new attitude to Wolfpack football, when he was named head coach at his alma mater in 2000. In addition to compiling an 8-4 record, Amato's first team set school season records for pass completions (242), pass attempts (455) and fewest turnovers (20). NC State's 3,218 passing yards in 2000 set second-best mark in the 109 seasons of Wolfpack football. In the same year, the Wolfpack players collectively lost more than 700 pounds as their head coach demanded that they hit the field leaner and meaner.
Amato was a three-year letterman in football and wrestling for the Wolfpack, playing on the gridiron for the legendary Earle Edwards. He later moved to Florida State, where he served as assistant head coach (1986-1999) and defensive line coach (1982-95).
Monday's show finds ACC LIVE reporter Jenn Hildreth speaking with Amato and junior quarterback Philip Rivers, to get an idea of the player/coach relationship. Rivers is the nation's most efficient quarterback with 202.2 rating points.
Each week, ACC LIVE profiles a legendary figure from the ACC - this year celebrating its 50th anniversary. Monday's focus is upon former NC State quarterback Roman Gabriel, a two-time All-American and ACC Player of the Year (1960-61) and an Academic All-American. Gabriel, a 15-year NFL veteran, was the 1969 NFL most valuable player and a three-time Pro Bowl honoree.
Also on Monday's show - official BCS standings; football injury updates; highlights of cross-country championships; previews of field hockey and women's soccer championships; and, news and notes from all sports around the conference.
