Wolfpack Swimming Inks Seven in Early Signing Period

Raleigh, N.C. - Brooks Teal and the NC State Swimming & Diving Staff are proud to announce the fall signing of eight student-athletes to the women's squad. Students in the class hail from five different states, including two from North Carolina, two from Texas, one from Ohio, one from Michigan and one from Pennsylvania.
Lindsay Barwegen, a native of Highland Village, Texas, looks to bring expertise in the freestyle events to the Wolfpack, and add depth in the butterfly. Barwegen is a member of the Lakeside Aquatic Club and also swims at Marcus High School. She will enroll in the First-Year College in the fall. She has top times of 24.91 in the 50 free, 1:52.88 in the 200 free, 16:55.15 in the 1650 free and 58.89 in the 100 fly. Barwegen chose NC State over Florida State, Arkansas, LSU and Colorado State.
Amy Baskwell of Charlotte, N.C. is also a strong freestyle performer, and can become a strong medley swimmer. She is a part of the Mecklenburg Aquadtic Club and swims at South Mecklenburg High School. A member of the National Honor Society, she plans to major in psychology. Her sister, Lindsay, is a sophomore breaststroker for the Pack. Baskwell has top times of 24.75 in the 50 free, 53.29 in the 100 free, 59.97 in the 100 fly, 1:00.64 in the 100 back and 4:37.65 in the 400 IM. Baskwell chose the Wolfpack over Duke, Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech.
Mallory Estill, a Houston, Texas native, joins the Wolfpack after swimming with Katy Aquatics and the James E. Taylor High School team. She is a strong butterfly and backstroker. Also a member of the National Honor Society, Estill will enroll in the Pre-Med curriculum. She has posted top times of 57.71 in the 100 fly, 2:10.15 in the 200 fly, 57.74 in the 100 back and 2:05.53 in the 200 back. Estill chose NC State over Fresno State, Maryland and South Carolina.
Melissa Jamerino, who hails from Grosse Pointe, Mich., will add depth in the freestyle and butterfly events. She currently swims with the Point Aquatics and Grosse Pointe North High School teams. Jamerino plans to double major in communication and sports medicine while at NC State. She has turned in top times of 24.00 in the 50 free, 53.27 in the 100 free, 26.16 in the 50 fly and 1:00.19 in the 100 fly. She chose the Wolfpack over Michigan State, San Diego State and Ohio State.
Halle Kiehlmier comes to NC State from Erie, Penn. She is a member of the Erie Aquatics and McDowell High School teams. She is a sprint specialist in the free, breast and back events. Kiehlmier plans to major in English education. She has posted top times of 24.30 in the 50 free, 53.70 in the 100 free, 1:05.35 in the 100 breast and 1:00.90 in the 100 back. She chose NC State over UNC Wilmington and Miami-Ohio.
Rebcca Perry, from nearby Greenville, N.C., also specializes in sprint events. She is a member of the Greenville Swim Club and swims at J.H. Rose High School. Perry plans to major in psychology. She has posted times of 23.58 in the 50 free, 51.26 in the 100 free, 1:51.84 in the 200 free and 58.25 in the 100 back. She chose NC State over UNC Chapel Hill, Virginia and East Carolina.
Kerry Whitson, a Centerville, Ohio native, will add depth to the freestyle contingent. She is coached by Kevin Weldon, an NC State Swimming alumni, on the Dayton Raiders team, and also swims at Centerville High School. She plans to major in business. Whitson's top times include 24.60 in the 50 free, 53.40 in the 100 free, 1:54.46 in the 200 free and 5:04.04 in the 500 free. She chose the Wolfpack over Kent State.
