RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State is pleased to introduce Dickie Brewer as its newest member of the women's golf staff. Brewer assumes the position as assistant coach effective immediately. He returns to NC State and the Raleigh area after playing collegiate golf under current men's coach Richard Sykes while a student at NC State. Brewer was a member of the Wolfpack from 1969-73.
"I am so excited about coming back to the area," says Brewer. "This is going to be a great experience and I feel I have a lot to offer to the program. My passion for the game of golf, along with my desire to work with these talented young people will go a long way."
Upon graduation, Brewer moved to High Point and has resided and worked in the Triad area. While there, he worked for Hatteras Yachts and for a private manufacturing business, which made upholstery products.
Brewer and his wife, Kay, have spent their free time working with a local ministry group. Kay works as a full-time volunteer leader for Young Life. His experience with youth will be a great addition to the staff.
"We are so delighted to have Dickie join the program," says head women's coach Page Marsh. "His ability to communicate with young adults is a great asset. He brings a lot to the table with his collegiate experience and love of the university. His golf knowledge and passion for the game will go a long way in creating the atmosphere that we strive to attain in our program."
Brewer's passion for the game runs deep, and runs in his family. His parents, who are both avid golfers late in their lives, introduced he and his siblings to the game at a young age. His brother, Sammy is currently the director of golf at Northridge Country Club in Raleigh.
Brewer's sons, Rich and Josh, are students at NC State.
