NC State men's basketball head coach Herb Sendek has announced that guard Engin Atsur has signed a national letter of intent to attend NC State. A native of Istanbul, Turkey, the 6-4 Atsur has earned a great amount of experience playing basketball in Europe.
In July, Atsur competed in the eight-game, 12-nation European Basketball Championship for Junior Men in Germany, averaging 22.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists. He was chosen to the six-member all-tournament team, and helped lead Turkey to a fifth-place finish. He served as the captain of the Turkish junior team and his Pertevniyal Istanbul club team.
Fluent in Turkish, German, and English, Atsur can also read and write in French. He currently attends French High School-Saint Benoit in Istanbul. His brother, Emre, is currently a junior guard at Western Carolina.
"Egin's versatility will be a perfect fit with our style of play," said Sendek. "He is a very skilled player and a very intelligent young man. We are looking forward to having him in our program."
