It was the exclamation point in NC State's 38-6 win over Clemson! Moments after the Tigers' Justin Miller fumbled a fourth quarter kickoff, picked it up and ran 80 yards for an improbable touchdown, the Pack answered.
Clemson's attempt at an onside kick was one they'll be kicking themselves about for years. An alert Jerricho Cotchery grabbed the loose ball and ran 42 yards for a NC State touchdown, shocking the Clemson faithful and starting the Pack's victory celebration. The Herculian effort put six more points on the board for NC State and $500 in the pocket of Billy Brown of Dobson, North Carolina. He was the latest winner in the popular "Toyota Kickoff Payoff" Contest.
"It was great, it was awesome," said the longtime State fan when commenting on Cotchery's heroics. "I'm just tickled to death."
He should be. Not only was the game profitable for this diehard fan. More importantly, it kept the Pack's dream of a perfect season alive. And that's something Billy and State fans everywhere would gladly take. "I've been a State fan as long as I can remember. They're doing great. I just hope they can keep going undefeated."
That question will be answered over the next four weeks on the field when NC State faces its stiffest competition. Meanwhile, off the gridiron the "Toyota Kickoff Payoff" Contest continues on GoPack.com. If NC State returns another opening kickoff for a touchdown some lucky fan will win a 2003 Toyota, just like Pam Wilcher earlier this season. Plus, everytime the Pack returns any other kickoff for six, someone will win $500, just like Rob Dwyer and Billy Brown. It's not too late to sign up. Register today for the "Toyota Kickoff Payoff" Contest.
