Oops, he did it again. Returning kickoffs for touchdowns is becoming old hat for NC State defensive back Lamont Reid. Against East Tennessee State the sensational sophomore ran back the opening kickoff 90 yards. The effort put six points on the board for the home team. It also put a new car in the driveway of Raleigh's Pam Wilcher, as a grand prizewinner in "The Toyota Kickoff Payoff" Contest.
So, what did Lamont do for an encore? Last Saturday he took one back 97 yards against Massachusetts. This one was also good for six points, plus it was worth $500 to Cary's Rob Dwyer. He picked up the latest prize in the contest that now has Wolfpack fans clicking on to GoPack.com for their chance to score.
"That's great, I don't ever win anything," was the reaction from this loyal fan who attends all of NC State's home football and basketball games. "I remember hearing the girl win the car." Now people will hear about Rob's good fortune.
Lamont is bringing new meaning to the term special teams. It's kind of like money in the bank when this guy gets his hands on the ball. Oh, and did we mention he also returned a blocked punt for a touchdown? These Herculean efforts are good news for NC State fans who follow the Pack and those that take time to register for "The Toyota Kickoff Payoff" Contest.
"What a fantastic story for Toyota to be a part of. I'm happy that our promotion is almost as successful as the team, " said Toyota District Sales Manager Andy McNeil.
With seven games yet to play there are still more prizes to be had. If the Wolfpack returns the opening kickoff of either half for a touchdown someone else will win a new Toyota. Plus, every time the Pack takes another kickoff back for six, it will be worth $500 to the lucky winner.
