Wolfpack Competes At Sun Devil Invitational

Tempe, Az.--The NC State men's and women's swimming/diving squads took part in the Sun Devil Invitational this weekend. No team score was kept, but several members of the Wolfpack had stellar performances.
On the women's side, junior AnnaMaria Gazda took first for the Wolfpack in the 200 backstroke (2:06.51). Senior Kathleen Tonini (2:10.47) and sophomore Erika Newell (2:10.51) also placed third and fourth, respctively, in the event.
Freshman Catherine Parks (2:08.30) and senior Shana Bullock (2:08.71) also went 1-2 in the 200 butterfly for the Wolfpack women.
The NC State men's squad had a very impressive showing, winning five of the six individual events. Freshman Kevin Barkley led off the Wolfpack assault with a victory in the 200 backstroke in a time of 1:51.34.
Barkely was followed by freshman Rob Yeager who took the 200 breaststroke in a mark of 2:09.03. Senior Suha Akman was third in 2:11.86.
Senior Tim Haley won the 200 butterfly (1:53.94), while sophomore Andy Seitz took the 200 freestyle in 1:44.86. Freshmen Ben Humphrey (1:47.23) and Justin Smith (1:48.04) completed the 1-2-3 sweep for NC State in the event.
Sophomore Cristian Rojas capped the onslaught for the men with a triumph in the 200 IM with a finishing time of 1:57.36.
