Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State men's soccer team fell to Massachusetts 2-1 Sunday afternoon at Method Road. The contest marked the final game of the adidas Wolfpack Classic, an annual tournament hosted by NC State.
NC State notched the first goal of the day when forward Matt Tabor was pulled down in the penalty box, resulting in a penalty kick. Junior Michael Karim took the ensuing kick, and tucked the ball into the corner of the net for his first goal of the season in the 24th minute.
NC State's good luck turned bad however, when freshman Brock Trejo received a red card and was ejected at the 39:45 mark in the first half, forcing the Pack to play a man down the rest of the way.
Massachusetts quickly capitalized on the man advantage, when Yuri Morales played a through ball to Jason Golesky who scored at the 40:48 mark. The Minutemen would then net the game-winner in the 65th minute when Morales scored in a scramble in front of the Pack's net.
NC State put 17 shots on goal compared to UMass' nine, including nine in the second half playing a man down.
In today's other contest, Northeastern used a goal from Petter Starnes in the 68th minute to defeat Duke 1-0. Northeastern won both of its games this weekend, while Duke was 1-1 overall.
The Pack will be back in action next weekend by traveling to Duke to compete in the Duke Adidas Tournament. The Pack fill face South Florida on Friday and Richmond on Saturday.
