NC State Postpones All Athletic Competition Through Weekend

NC State Director of Athletics Lee Fowler has announced that the NC State Department of Athletics has postponed all scheduled competitions through Sunday, September 16. The competitions will be rescheduled at a later date
The football game versus Ohio, scheduled for Thursday evening, has been moved to Saturday, November 24 at 1:00 p.m. All tickets, credentials and passes will be honored at that time.
"In light of the tragedy that has struck our nation today and the uncertainty of travel plans, we have decided that out of respect for the victims involved and concern for the safety of our student-athlete, we will postpone all of our competitions," said Fowler on Tuesday afternoon.
Other Wolfpack teams affected by the decision are the volleyball, men's and women's soccer, men's and ***women's cross country and women's tennis squads.
***High School races will still be held at the University Club at 10:00 a.m. and will be known as the Cougar Invitational***
The football team did not practice on Tuesday, a decision made by head coach Chuck Amato before he learned the Ohio game had been postponed. "I don't think anyone on our campus was thinking about football today," he said. "We called the team together and prayed together. I think that's all we needed to do today."
Meanwhile, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced that all competitions involving its institutions through Thursday, September 13 would also be postponed.
"We are deeply saddened by the tragic events of this morning," said ACC Commissioner John Swofford. "All nine ACC member institutions are in agreement that the next couple of days should be a time for reflection and prayer for the families of those who are involved in this tragedy. Our concerns are for the safety of our participants and fans, both in travel and in assembly, and respect for the aftermath of these terrible events. We will continue to seek advice and counsel from our schools and state, local and national authorities in regards to other future scheduled events."
Commissioner Swofford has scheduled a conference call with league officials on Wednesday (September 12) to continue discussions concerning future ACC athletic events. The ACC will have an announcement Wednesday evening concerning this weekend's athletic events.
