Freshman Football Players Report For Preseason Drills

It's now official: The NC State football program's 2001 freshman class has reported for preseason practice. But the official date is more ceremonial than anything else given the fact that most of the rookies have actually been on campus working out on their own for about a month.
Of course the big difference now is that they'll be practicing under the supervision of Chuck Amato's coaching staff for the first time.
On Monday, August 6, the freshmen attended several orientation-style meetings, including an introductory session with coach Amato.
The first preseason practice for the first year players will begin Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. A total of 24 scholarship players and nine walk-ons are scheduled to participate. Freshmen who graduated early from high school last December will come in with the upperclassmen on Thursday.
The first full-squad practice is slated to begin on Saturday, August 11 at 8:35 a.m. The fans will get their first up close look at the Wolfpack when the entire team gathers for the annual Meet the Pack Day festivities on Sunday afternoon.
A new addition to Meet the Pack Day this year is the `Day of Champions' strength exhibition slated to begin at the Entertainment and Sports Arena at 3:00 p.m. An autograph session with all the coaches and players will follow at approximately 4:00 p.m.

Monday, August 6: 21 scholarship freshmen, three junior college transfers and nine walk-ons report
Tuesday, August 7: Freshmen go through first practice at 4:30 p.m.
Thursday, August 9: Varsity reports
Saturday, August 11: First full squad practice at 8:35 a.m.
Sunday, August 12: Day of Champions/Meet the Pack Day at ESA from 3-5 p.m.
Wednesday, August 15: First day in pads
Monday, August 20: Classes begin
Thursday, September 6: Indiana at NC State, 7:38 p.m.
