NC State linebacker Levar Fisher has been named as a candidate for both the Lombardi and Butkus awards.
The Beaufort, NC native led the nation in tackles last season with 163 (sixth-best in school history) and is seventh all-time in school history with 344 tackles, 113 tackles behind the Wolfpack all-time leading tackler Damien Covington (1991-94).
Fisher's play in 2000 earned him the ACC Defensive Player of the Year as well as All-American honors.
Fisher could become the first player in Wolfpack history to win either of these prestigious awards. Fisher was also a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy last season.
The Lombardi Award is hosted by the Rotary Club of Houston and is given annually to the top college football lineman - offense or defense. The Butkus Award - established by the Downtown Athletic Club of Orlando - is presented to the nation's best collegiate linebacker.
