Manning Joins Deacons
Former Wolfpack women's basketball star Sharon Manning is back in the ACC. Manning, a first team All-ACC performer at NC State in 1990, has been hired as an assistant coach at Wake Forest.
"I've known Sharon and have followed her career since high school and am very excited to have her join our staff," said Wake Forest head coach Charlene Curtis. "I'm looking forward to having a person with her experience and character as a part of our program. She is the first `true post' coach we've had since I've been here."
Manning, who was named MVP of the 1991 ACC Tournament, still ranks among the Wolfpack career leaders in scoring (1,569), and fifth all-time in rebounding (912). She earned a degree in sociology from NC State in 1991.
Following her college career, Manning played professionally in Europe for nine years before returning to the states to begin playing in the WNBA. Three seasons with the Charlotte Sting (1997-99) were followed by one year with the Miami Sol (1990).
Manning started her coaching career as an assistant at St. Joseph's University last season.
