NC State linebacker Levar Fisher, who is no stranger to college football awards, has been named to the 2001 Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List. Fisher is one of 52 preliminary candidates for the 32nd Lombardi Award, which is given annually to the nation's top interior lineman. Eligibility for the Lombardi Award is limited to down linemen and those defenders who line up within five yards of the football. This year's winner will be announced on December 5th in Houston.
Fisher, a 6-1, 223 pound senior from Beaufort, NC, was voted ACC Defensive Player of the Year last season after leading the nation in tackles with 15.1 per game. He was also a first team All-America selection by the Football Writers Association of America and the Football News. He was also a second team selection by the Walter Camp Association and the Associated Press.
Though he missed all of spring practice after undergoing off-season shoulder surgery, Fisher is expected to be at full strength by the time fall practice begins in early August.
The Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List is comprised of returning Division 1 college football players who meet the basic position requirements for the award and who have previously earned either All-American or first team All-Conference recognition.
Fisher has also been named to this year's Bronco Nagurski Trophy Watch list.
