Women's Golf Inks Six Recruits

Raleigh, NC - NC State head women's golf coach Page Marsh Lea has announced the signing of six players to join the Wolfpack roster for the 2001-02 season. This group includes Sarah Bonner (Kingsport, TN), Colby Cobb (Mt. Pleasant, SC), Leslie Stubblefield (Kennesaw, GA), Gwen Watson (Greenville), Erica Wein (Cary) and Sara Anderson (Westerville, OH).
"I am excited about the incoming class of 2001," commented Coach Lea. " As a class they have excellent tournament experience and will be great assets to our women's program. All have great desire, enthusiasm and committment. These young women will be a real complement to our current freshmen class. "
Bonner comes to Raleigh from Kingsport, Tenn. where she competed at Dobyns Bennett High School. She placed fourth in the Tennessee state golf championships in 1998 and 1999. Bonner finished third in the Tennessee State Amateur last summer and won the Through The Green event after firing a 68 in the first round.
Cobb played at Wando High School in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. where she was the Beth Daniel South Carolina Player of the Year in 1999. She is a two-time Plantations Junior Golf Tour Player of the Year. Cobb posted wins in the 2000 Charles Tillman Invitational, the 2000 SCJGA Fall Challenge, the 2000 Optimist Qualifier, the 1999 Rice Planters, and the 1999 and 2000 Caddie Classic.
Stubblefield joins the Wolfpack after competing at The Lovett School in Kennesaw, Ga. where she won the Georgia state high school championship in 2000. She won the Southeastern Junior Tour Event at Dafuskie Island, S.C. as well as the 1999 Maxfli PGA Georgia state championship, the 1998 and 2000 Optimist state championships. Stubblefield was named the GSGA Player of the Year in 1999.
Gwen Watson played at Rose High School in Greenville, NC where she won nine high school tournaments in 2000 and placed second in the regionals and fourth at the state championships. She fired a North Carolina high school state-record low round of 66 to win the Big East Conference championship last fall. Watson won the George Holliday at Myrtle Beach National with a 73 in November, 2000.
Erica Wein of Cary Academy recently won the Nike Winter National at the Pinehurst Resort. She is a three-time Nike All-American and has been named all-conference, all-region and all-state. Wein shot a career-low round of 67 to finish second in the Mid Pines Junior in 2000.
Sara Anderson of Westerville, Ohio will be joining the team as a walk-on in the fall. She was a three-time MVP and all-league selection at Westerville North High School. She won the Maxfli-PGA Jr. local qualifier in 2000 runner-up in two OGCOA events. Anderson is a four-year scholar athlete and a Parks Scholar.
All six signees will join the Wolfpack for fall competition in 2001.
