NC State Announces Football Scheduling Changes
NC State University Director of Athletics Lee Fowler has finalized the 2001 Wolfpack football schedule with two changes . Chuck Amato's team will now open the season on Thursday, Sept. 6 versus Indiana and will face Ohio University on Thursday, Sept. 13. The Indiana game will be televised nationally on ESPN as the first Thursday night game of the 2001 season.
"Anyone who saw our win at Indiana last year knows that this has all the makings of a great game," said Amato. "Two of the most exciting quarterbacks in the country, Philip Rivers and Antwan Randle-El, will be facing each other on national television and playing the Thursday night game on ESPN gives us great national exposure for recruiting. Also, moving the season opener to a later date helps us to avoid conflicts between practice and summer school during the preseason."
Due to the changes, Homecoming will now be the Mayland contest on November 17, while Parents Weekend will move to the Oct. 27 game versus Virginia.
"We are excited to have the opportunity to showcase our university, the football program and the improvements to Carter-Finley Stadium for a national audience," said Fowler. "Also, moving the games gives our fans to come and see the Wolfpack play and still make plans for the Labor Day Weekend."
