NC State Completes First Football Scrimmage

Raleigh, NC -- The NC State football squad had its first scrimmage of the spring Saturday afternoon at Carter-Finley Stadium.
The offense had success during the action as freshman Troy Graham accounted for the lone receiving touchdown as he hauled in a 25-yard slant from Olin Hannum. 2000 ACC Rookie of the Year Phillip Rivers picked up where he left off in the fall by completing 22 of 30 passes for 270 yards. Rivers longest completion of the afternoon was a 43-yard strike to Andy Bertrand. Hannum finished the afternoon connecting on 6 of 15 passes for 73 yards and the touchdown to Graham.
In the receiving category, Jeremy Mebane had seven catches for 118 yards for top honors. Bertrand hauled in four catches for 75 yards to go with Willie Wright's 64 yards on six receptions.
On the ground, Hannum also led the way with 37 yards on five carries. Ray Robinson chipped in 32 yards on eight carries, including a 7-yard scamper into the endzone. K.J Stone also tallied 19 yards on six carries.
For the defense, Dantonio Burnette had eight total tackles, while Brian Jamison had 7 stops from his middle linebacker position. Roger Pollard and Terrence Holt also posted six tackles each with Pollard recovering a fumble as well.
Rod Johnson had the lone interception of the afternoon with a leaping pick of reserve quarterback Clayton Russell near midfield.
