NC State Women Compete at ACC Swimming/Diving Championships

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- The NC State women began competition Thursday in Day 1 of the ACC Swimming/Diving Championships in Charlottesville, VA. The Wolfpack currently stands sixth overall with 100 points. North Carolina is first with 247, followed by Virginia (210), Maryland (153), Florida State (139) and Clemson (137). Duke University is seventh with 38 points.
Pacing the Wolfpack charge was senior Mary Mittendorf, who finished fourth overall in the 200 Indivdual Medley with a time of 2:03.74. Bridget Bowers and Sue Vogt also competed in the event for NC State, taking 23rd (2:11.0) and 24th (2:12.35), respectively.
Sophomore Erin Bailey had another strong performance in the 1-meter diving competition, taking fifth overall with a score of 243.15.
The Wolfpack finished sixth overall in both the 200 free relay and the 400 medley relay. Swimming for NC State in the 200 free (1:35.13) was Karen Cone, Dawn DeLuca, Mittendorf and Andrea Hastings. Annamaria Gazda, Natalie Jones, DeLuca and Mandy Horn made up the 400 medley (3:50.96) contingent.
Horn also led the Wolfpack in the 500 freestyle, posting a 13th-place finish (4:57.23), followed by Katie Sheridan (16th, 5:03.15), Kathleen Tonini (20th, 5:01.99) and Emily Fess (23rd, 5:06.96).
Hastings (20th, 24.12) and Cone (22nd, 24.37) also represented NC State in the 50 freestyle.
The meet is scheduled to run through Saturday evening.
