Wolfpack Wrestling Sweeps Three At NC State Duals

RALEIGH, N.C. - Senior 165-pounder Pierre Pryor and sophomore 133-pounder Ryan McCallum won three matches apiece to lead the NC State wrestling team to three victories in as many matches at the NC State Duals, held Saturday at Reynolds Coliseum.
NC State, which improved to 4-0 on the season in dual matches, defeated VMI 22-15 in the first round of the duals, then defeated Old Dominion 28-13 and 22nd-ranked Drexel by a 32-12 score. In other matches, Drexel beat Old Dominion 32-13 and Campbell 42-7, and VMI defeated Old Dominion 30-10.
Chris Jones (Drexel, 197 pounds), Rob Rebmann (Drexel, 125 pounds), Jason Staso (Drexel, 157 pounds) and Jeff Rusack (Old Dominion, 184 pounds) also won all three of their bouts in the duals.
The Wolfpack began the day slowly, falling behind VMI 15-4, but rallied to win the final five matches to record the come-from-behind victory. Heavyweight Ngozi Collins pinned David Walker at 6:31 to give NC State the lead for keeps at 16-15, and George Cintron and McCallum salted away the win with decisions at 125 and 133, respectively. NC State got stronger as the afternoon went along, winning three of the first four bouts against Old Dominion and five of the first seven to roll to past the Monarchs, and setting up a battle of unbeaten teams between the Wolfpack and Drexel.
The Pack jumped all over Drexel from the start, taking five of the first six matches, including two pins and two major decisions, to take a 23-6 lead and remove all suspense regarding the final outcome. McCallum capped the day by pinning Drexel's Joe Cristaldi in just 82 seconds of the first period at 133 in the final bout of the match.
