Powell Named ACC Rookie of the Week

Raleigh, N.C. - Freshman forward Josh Powell (Riverdale, Ga.) was named ACC Rookie of the Week for the first week of the 2001-02 season. Powell sparked NC State to home victories over JMU and The Citadel last week, and has helped the Pack jump out to a 5-0 record so far this season.
In the Pack's 17 point win over JMU, Powell scored 10 points and added four rebounds. Against The Citadel, the 6-9, 210-pound freshman finished the game with a game-high 16 points, with 11 coming in the second half and also pulled down a game-high eight boards.
For the week, Powell tallied 26 points on 7-15 (.500) shooting, went 12-16 from the charity stripe, and pulled down a dozen rebounds. He also blocked five shots.
The Wolfpack is currently in Columbus, Ohio, to face Ohio State Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. in the annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
