Wolfpack Has Company on the Road

During a recent media gathering, NC State head basketball coach Herb Sendek was asked why his teams had experienced so many difficulties in ACC road games.
"While not pleased with our win total on the road, I don't think our road record is much different than a lot of other teams in the league," he remarked.
And while he certainly isn't doing cartwheels over the Pack's 'road woes,' Sendek wasn't far off base in his characterization. Since the 1996-97 season, NC State's conference record away from home stands at 6-28. Research done by Al Featherston of the Durham Herald Sun reveals that the Wolfpack isn't alone.
Over the last four-plus seasons, only Duke, North Carolina and Maryland have won more games than they have lost on the road. At 12-22, Wake Forest has the fourth best winning percentage. The other five schools have single digit win totals.
ACC Road Records Since 1996-97: Clemson 7-26 Duke 30-4 Florida St. 8-25 Georgia Tech 6-28 Maryland 19-15 N. Carolina 20-14 NC State 6-28 Virginia 6-28 Wake Forest 12-22
Using those numbers as a barometer, it would be safe to say that Duke's current 21-game road winning streak is one of the more amazing accomplishments in league history. The records also indicate a period of top-heavy dominance by Duke, North Carolina and Maryland.
