Tech Men Top Wolfpack 140-101

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State men's swimming/diving squad fell To the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, 140-101, at the Willis Casey Aquatics Center on Friday (Jan. 12).
The highlight of the meet for the Wolfpack (2-5) was supplied by freshman Pat Roberts who qualified for both the 1-meter and 3-meter NCAA Diving Championships with scores of 291.8 and 332.0, respectively. Roberts's teammate, Jason Clipp, placed third in both events with a score of 224.0 in the 1-meter and 232.0 in the 3-meter.
The Wolfpack started the meet in strong fashion by winning the 400 Medley Relay (Braden Holloway, Suha Akman, Tim Haley, Greg Solt) with a time of 3:23.31, the fastest of the season. The relay was keyed by senior All-American Holloway, who swam the first leg of the event, the 100 backstroke, in a season-best 49.85. Later, NC State also captured the 400 Freestyle Relay (Randy Tyner, Christian Rojas, Jorge Gutierrez, Haley) with a time of 3:09.74, its second-fastest mark of 2000-01.
All-American Solt captured the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.06, while Haley took the win in the 200 butterfly in 1:50.97.
For Georgia Tech, the meet was highlighted by Shilo Ayalon, who took the win in the 1000 freestyle with a blistering time of 9:09.01, breaking the Willis Casey Aquatics Center mark of 9:15.54 set by Clemson's Rick Aronberg on January 25, 1986.
The Wolfpack men and women will face conference foe Virginia at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow at the Willis Casey Aquatics Center.
