Football Squad Performing On and Off the Field

In addition to posting an 8-4 record and defeating Minnesota in the micronpc.com Bowl, several members of the NC State football squad also enjoyed success in the classroom. Four Wolfpack starters and three other players who saw significant action in 2000 were among the members of the football squad who posted grade point averages of 3.0 or higher for the fall semester.
Starters who also starred in the classroom were quarterback Philip Rivers (3.083/First Year College), center Derek Green (3.051/parks, recreation and tourism), linebacker Clayton White (3.154/parks recreation and tourism), and punter Austin Herbert (3.310/First Year College). Defensive tackle Rickey Fowler (3.408/First Year College), fullback Tramayne Simmons (3.167/textiles), tight end Andy Vanderveer (3.095/biological science) were all top reserves for the Pack in 2000.
