RALEIGH, NC (Aug. 9) - The NC State varsity hit the field for the first time Aug. 9, as they participated in their conditioning test in almost 95-degree heat at the on-campus practice fields.
The Wolfpack players were required to run 16 110-yard timed sprints. Three different groups ran with different time standards depending on their position. The last run for each group ended up being slightly more competitive, as the players sprinted toward the finish line. The highlight of the run was when 323-pound offensive tackle, Jarvis "Big Earth" Borum, outsprinted his lighter teammates to win the final lineman run.
"We were glad the weather was as hot as it was," said Wolfpack head coach Chuck Amato following the run. "The heat can make cowards out of all of us, but I thought they did a tremendous job today. They worked extremely hard all summer and it looks like it has paid off."
The entire team will begin two-day practices on Thursday. The Wolfpack will conduct the first practice at 10:35 a.m. and be back out on the field at 8:00 p.m. NC State will work out at the same time on Friday.
"We are looking forward to getting out on the field for the first time as an entire unit," concluded Amato. "It has been a long summer and we just want to start working to get better."
