Who says nice guys finish last? Cornerback Tony Scott, a sixth-round selection in April's National Football League Draft, will be wearing a New York Jets uniform when the NFL kicks off its season on September 3.
The former NC State star put together an impressive preseason camp and in doing so, he secured a spot on the Jets' regular season roster. Scott, 23, will probably have to earn his stripes on special teams early in his career.
"It takes a special person to play special teams, that's the way I look at it," Scott told the New York Daily News. "If my role is to play special teams, I'm willing to do that."
The Jets will open their season at Green Bay on Sunday.
During the 1998 and '99 seasons, Scott and Lloyd Harrison made up one of the ACC's best cornerback tandems. Harrison, who was selected by Washington in the third round of this year's draft, will see his first regular season action on Sunday when the Redskins entertain the Carolina Panthers.
