Wolfpack Concludes Two-A-Days With Intense Scrimmage

One of the most noticeable differences in this scrimmage was the intensity and the hitting, which made head coach Chuck Amato extremely happy.
"I was really pleased with the intensity that the guys played with tonight," said Amato. "Compared to Wednesday's scrimmage, we came out with a little more fire and some players made some big hits."
On the first drive by the first-team offense, freshman quarterback Philip Rivers led the Wolfpack to the 10-yard line. On the next play, Rivers lofted a pass into the end zone that Julius Patterson intercepted.
On the next drive, the first-unit got on the board when Koren Robinson scored on a reverse. The other points for the first-team came on a 45-yard field goal by Kent Passingham and a nine-yard pass from Rivers to Derek Roberts.
Willie Wright made a spectacular one-handed catch as he was falling on his back and Koren Robinson made a diving catch of a Rivers pass that put the ball at the two-yard line.
On the defense, linebacker Edrick Smith, who suffered a season-ending knee injury last season, saw his first action in the scrimmage. Safety Terrence Holt also had an interception for the Pack defense.
"It was real enouraging for Edrick to get back on the field," said Amato. "He had not seen any real contact yet this year so it was good for him to get out there and hit people."
From the goal line, the first-team offense scored three-of-four times against the second-team defense during drills on Saturday evening.
The Wolfpack will begin classes on Monday and will have one practice in the afternoon.
