RALEIGH, NC - NC State head football coach Chuck Amato issued high marks for players on both sides of the ball as the Wolfpack finished practice on Aug. 17 on the campus fields.
The Wolfpack, who have just two days of double sessions remaining, worked out for two and a half hours in the morning and again in the evening for a little over two hours.
"I am pleased with the effort I am seeing each day on the field during these two-a-day practices," said Amato. "We have put them through a lot during this preseason, but they continue to respond."
The first-year head coach singled out a few players on each side of the football who have stepped up over the last couple of practices.
Amato likes the progress of senior wide receiver Eric Leak, who caught six passes for 86 yards in the Aug. 16 scrimmage. He also acknowledged junior running back Ray Robinson and senior lineman Jarvis Borum.
Defensively, Amato stated that junior safety Adrian Wilson and Corey Smith have continued to improve. Smith ran circles around the offense on Wednesday as he recorded three sacks and Wilson, who had 104 tackles last season, was credited with six stops.
"These guys have stepped up their play over the last couple of days in camp," said Amato. "I thought Eric had a good scrimmage catching the ball and running all over the field on Wednesday and you have to be impressed with the way Jarvis worked this summer to get in shape."
The Wolfpack will hit the field for two-a-days on Aug. 18, beginning with an 8:30 a.m. practice and again at 7:00 p.m.
