RALEIGH, NC (Aug. 14) - NC State head coach Chuck Amato got his first look at his 2000 Wolfpack as he put his team through some scrimmage-like situations on the campus fields on Aug. 14.
The Wolfpack did some 11-on-11 work and a situational one-minute drill for the first time. The first-team offense went against the second-team defense and the first-team defense battled the second-team offense.
The highlight of the night was a 40-yard pass from freshman quarterback Philip Rivers to sophomore wide receiver Koren Robinson down the left sideline. Senior placekicker Kent Passingham booted a field goal for the only points during the drill.
"It was a good first day," said Amato. "There was a lot of emotion out there and they got after each other pretty good."
On the defensive side, safety Adrian Wilson had an interception, but that was called back when the defense lined up offsides.
"We were really pleased with the way they went after each other. We are going to let all of them fight for positions because competition makes them better ."
The team will put full pads on for the first time on the morning of Aug. 15. The Wolfpack will practice at 8:30 a.m. and again at 7:00 p.m.
