A prominent member of NC State's 1974 national championship basketball team
is being listed as a finalist for the head men's basketball coaching
position at North Carolina Central University.
According to the Raleigh News & Observer, Phil Spence is among four candidates still in the running to succeed Greg Jackson, who stepped down on May 17 to take the coaching job at Delaware State.
Former North Carolina forward Dudley Bradley, Gosnell White and Ron Woodard are also being considered. The final decision will be made by ex-NC State football player Lin Dawson, who took over as NCCU's athletics director on June 1.
Spence, who has coached at East Wake High School and Cary High, is seeking his first collegiate coaching position.
