Will the Hawks Go with Lowe?

Sidney Lowe, who helped NC State win a college basketball national championship in 1983, is being considered for the vacant head coaching job with the NBA's Atlanta Hawks.

Lowe, currently an assistant under Flip Saunders in Minnesota, has confirmed to the St. Paul Pioneer Press that he has spoken with Hawks' officials about the job.

Atlanta began its search for a new coach soon after veteran Lenny Wilkins announced his resignation last week.

Lowe has been an NBA head coach before: He was the top man on the Minnesota Bench from January of 1993 through the 1993-94 season. He returned the Timberwolves as an assistant coach this season.

During his professional playing career, Lowe played for five different NBA teams including the Timberwolves and Hawks.

Lowe's family still resides in North Carolina although they are in the process of building a new home in the Twin Cities area.
